For Little Ones

*Baby Rhymes
Non-walkers 5 months and up with adult. Thursdays at 11:15, September 25-November 20. No class 10/9. Register.

*Movers and Shakers
Walkers up to 18 months with caregiver. Wednesdays at 10:00, September 24-November 19. No class 10/1. Register.

*Mother Goose Time
1 1/2- 2 1/2 year olds with caregiver. Wednesdays at 11:00, September 24-November 19 (no class 10/1) and Thursdays at 9:50 and 10:30, September 25-November 20 (no class 10/9). Register for one series.

*Toddler Time
2 1/2-3 1/2 year olds with caregiver. Tuesdays at 10:00, September 23-November 25 (no class 9/30, 11/4, 11/11) and Fridays at 10:00 and 10:45, September 26-November 21 (no class 10/10). Register for one series.

*Tales for Tots
3 1/2 - 5 year olds. Kindergartners welcome. Mondays at 1:15, September 22-December 1 (no class 10/13), Tuesdays at 10:00, September 23-December 2 (no class 9/30, 11/4, 11/11) and Thursdays at 1:15, September 25-December 4 (no class 10/9, 11/27). Register for one.

*Stories-To-Go
Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Great stories and related crafts. Tuesdays at 4:00, Oct. 7, 14 and 21. Register.

*Live Animals Experiences!
...possible appearances by a chinchilla, wallaby, kinkajou, gecko and more! For grades 3 and up. Saturday, September 20th at 2:00 pm. Lottery registration September 2-9.

*Around the World Family Show
...Storytelling, theater and music with Lou Del Bianco. For ages 4 and up. Tuesday, December 30 at 11:00 am. Tickets available December 6th.

*Babysitting Workshop
...for ages 11 and up on September 27th, 10-12 am AND 1:30-3:30 pm. A four-hour introduction to the skills and responsibilities of babysitting. Joan Lloyd of the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps will discuss safety issues. Early Childhood Specialist, Maureen Stark, will present information on child development. A 6-day lottery registration period will be held September 2-September 7.

*Mommy & Me Spanish
...for 6 months through 5-years-olds with caregiver. Foreign language classes for little learners offered by native speaker and educator Bahiyyah Jones. Tuesdays, October 7 through 28 at 11:00-11:30 am. Lottery registration September 2-9.

*Pumpkin Decorating
...ages 3 and up with caregiver. Saturday, October 18 at 10:30, 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. Registration begins Saturday, September 20th.

*Comic Book Quest!
...What's your super power? Are you good or evil? Create your story in comic-book format. For Grades 4-6. Saturday, November 8th at 1:30 pm. Registration begins Saturday, October 4th.

*Family Science Fun
...for kindergartners through 2nd graders with a caregiver. A research chemist will guide exploration of surface tension with hands-on activities. Saturday, November 15th, 10:30-11:15. Please register beginning Saturday, October 4th.

*Christmas Ornaments
...ages 3 and up with caregiver, Saturday, December 6th at 10, 11:15 and 1:00 pm. Registration begins Saturday, November 1st.

*Latkes and Love
...Chanukah celebration for all families with children ages 4 and up. Enjoy Kathy McQuown, a storyteller specializing in Jewish stories for over 25 years. Fresh latkes and refreshments will be served. Sunday, December 21st at 2 pm. Phone or in-person registration begins Saturday, November 22nd.

*Songs for Playful Children!
...drop in for some foot-stomping musical fun with the ever-popular Kurt Gallagher! For children ages 3-5 with caregivers and siblings. Series of 4: Wednesdays, September 24, (no class 10/1), October 8, 15, 22 from 1:30-2:10 pm. No registration needed.

*Registration Procedures
Participants for all weekly programs will be chosen by lottery, as will Live Animals, Babysitting Workshop, Mommy & Me Spanish, and Paint! Other special programs are first come, first placed. Registration forms must be completed in the library between September 2 and 9. Please phone the library for results beginning September 12.

Birth certificates are required for all preschool programs. Your child should be the appropriate age by the first date of the program.

All children's weekly and special programs are open to residents of Yorktown and Cortlandt with current Hart/WLS cards. Library cards are required at registration.


Teacher-in-the-Library

Free homework help for elementary school students will again be available at our continuing Teacher-in-the-Library Program. Note change in hours: Monday through Thursday from 4:45-7:45, except when schools are closed. No sign-up, just drop in during hours. Begins September 15.


NEW Service!
The Children's Department is now checking out video games for PS2, X-Box and Wii systems. Games are available for children through middle-school age, including Barnyard, Harry Potter, and SpongeBob.
