Note from the President of the Friends of the Library:
It's been over a year now that I've been sitting on the Friends board, and I can report to you that our selfless and dedicated board members have been working tirelessly to ensure the continuation of all the programs you have come to expect. These include the Express Book Collection, many of our Children's Programs, the daily and annual Book and Bake Sales (our annual event will be held on October 24-26 this year), the Sunday Concert Series, our participation in Yorktown Community Day, and our support of library infrastructure.
Our Members of the Friends, in addition to the monetary support of their membership fees, often volunteer to help the librarians sort books or perform other tasks, help with Hart for the Homebound, and contribute in many ways to the success of our annual book sale.
If you care to become involved, mark Thursday, June 12th at 1:00 on your calendar. This is the date of the annual open meeting of the Board of the Friends of John C. Hart Memorial Library, which will be held in our Community Room. We will welcome your participation.
The Friends as a program is moving ahead full throttle. The Book and Bake Sale last October was a popular success. We have had a large turnout at our varied concerts. The daily book sales have continued to thrive, and our active volunteers have proved invaluable. Sincerest thanks to our former and current baord members, members of the Friends of the Library, our many volunteers, and library staff and trustees, all of whom work together to make our great institution a place of pride in our community.

Fund raising is an integral part of any Friends activity. From annual membership dues, an on-going book sale in the Library and the much anticipated large annual book and bake sale, comes the income the Friends need. You see the fruits of their work every day at the Library. Their contributions make possible the expansion of several of our most popular collections; Express Books and DVD’s, Audio-Books, and Graphic novels. In addition, the Sunday Concert series and many Children’s Department programs are funded solely through the Friends of the Library.
There is an annual meeting of the Friends in June, when a new budget is adopted and elections are held for its Officers.
Watch the bulletin boards and flyers in the Library and the Newsletters we send out quarterly for announcements of other library events.
The Library Board of Trustees and the staff are grateful to the Friends for the fine work they do and the help they offer – their assistance greatly enriches the Library. The Library Board, the Friends Board and I all welcome your suggestions about added services or resources you would like to see developed to meet your needs. Your membership in the Friends is invited.
