Library Policies and
Program Eligibility

Library cards are given to anyone who resides in the Towns of Yorktown or the Lakeland School District portion of the Town of Cortlandt. Proof of residency is required; there is no minimum age. The library also issues cards to non-Westchester County residents who work or attend school in the Town of Yorktown. Proof of address and employment, or school attendance is required.

To be eligible for some of our programs, a child, a child's parent or guardian, or a child's grandparents must be eligible to obtain a library card from this library. Anyone is welcome at drop in programs and all Westchester cards are honored at check out.

The library welcomes children to use its facilities for customary library activities, however, responsibility for children using the library rests with the parent, guardian, or assigned chaperone, not with library personnel.

Children 10 years of age or younger must be accompanied and supervised by an adult or a teenager (16 years or older).

Responsible parties must remain in the building while a child 10 years of age or younger is attending a program.

Teacher Borrowing

Teachers who teach in the Lakeland and Yorktown school districts may request an exception to the library policy of three items on a non-fiction topic or subject (juvenile materials only).

Please ask a librarian about how many books may be borrowed. A decision will be made based on current local demand and the number of items we have on the shelf on the topic.
