Notary Services

The library offers notary services free of charge to Yorktown library card holders. The notary is available by appointment on Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm. Appointments may be scheduled using the following link:

Guidelines:

  • You must bring photo identification to the notarization appointment. A valid, unexpired driver’s license or a valid, unexpired passport are acceptable examples.
  • Per New York Notary Public License Law, a notary may refuse to notarize a document if the notary is not satisfied that either/both of the following statements are true:
    • (1) the principal is competent or has the capacity to execute a record
    • (2) the principal’s signature is knowingly and voluntarily made.
  • The notary will not notarize an incomplete document. All fields must be completed, and the notary must be able to review the entire document. No exceptions.
  • Witnesses will not be provided by the Library and witnesses may not be solicited from patrons using the Library. In order to serve as a witness, the witness must personally know the person whose document is being notarized and must be in possession of valid photo identification.
  • The document must be signed in the presence of the notary. A document that is already signed will not be notarized.
  • The library notary is unable to notarize wills at this time.
