Residents 14+ can use their Yorktown library card to reserve the makerspace's Cricut Maker 3 for up to two times per week. The library has a limited supply of basic materials for cutting (see Supplies & Materials below) and to ensure the correct materials are present, patrons are encouraged to bring their own.
For clarification or assistance on our Cricut machines, feel free to reach out via email to reference@yorktownlibrary.org.
How to Sign Up
Time slots for this machine will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm-4pm: view and book available time slots at this link.
A patron can book a time slot one month into the future and can book up to two times per week. Upon the first use of the Makerspace, patrons will need to fill out a Makerspace User Agreement agreeing to the Makerspace Terms of Use upon entering the makerspace; this will be a google form that only needs to be filled out once and will be kept on file.
Before you come to an Open Maker visit be sure to:
- Know what materials you need to bring for your project: The makerspace has basic tools, mats for mounting material to be cut, basic cutting materials, and transfer tape. Patrons need to bring in any specialize or specific materials needed, plus any specialized tools needed for their projects. More details can be found below under Supplies & Materials
- When you arrive for your reservation, check in at the reference desk
- Patrons arriving more than 15 minutes late for their reservation may lose their reservation(s) for the day. Repeated failures to show up for reservations (without canceling) will result in Open Makerspace privileges being temporarily revoked.
- Makerspace staff is only available to help with set-up and to answer basic questions

The Process
1.Design
Create an SVG of your project in a program of your choice to import into Cricut Design Space, or create your design directly in Design Space. To learn more about how to use Cricut Design Space, this Youtube video is a great overview. For a more detailed lesson, try this video as well.
Check out this blog for dozens of beginner friendly Cricut project ideas and tutorials. You can also check out Cricut's official blog, which showcases lots of projects and ideas.
Design Space has its own design library of resources and patterns, but there are also many resources available online which offer more variety. A few you can browse are:
*Note that some of these sites also have paywalled designs.*
In addition to these sites, any SVG file is Cricut compatible and can be uploaded to the Design Space Canvas.
2. Prepare
Once your Project/Design is finished get ready to bring it to the library. The library will provide you an iPad with Cricut Design Space on it to interact with our Cricut. You can log into Design Space with your own account, transfer the design via email or airdrop, or bring your personal device to connect with the Cricut.
Make sure any special materials or tools your project needs have been purchased.
3. Create!
When you have your files, and your materials, use this link to make a reservation of our Cricut Maker 3 machine.
Either use the provided iPad, or hook up your personal device to the Cricut, and start up your project. Follow Design Space's on-screen prompts to load materials and cut each piece of your project.
*Note: A staff member will be present to provide basic operating assistance.*
